Hi, I'm Aisha Gomez. I’m running again to be your state representative for District 62A

I’m a Southsider, a fighter for justice, and your State Representative in St. Paul for the past five years. 

Last year was an incredible time to serve our community. We started 2023 with a DFL trifecta, a historic budget surplus, and a lot of work to do. I was named Chair of the Tax Committee and passed a bill that has the rich pay more of their fair share and invests in our communities. A new tax credit will reduce child poverty by ⅓, an ongoing $35M annual Tribal Aid will help Tribes meet the needs of their citizens, and a restructuring of the rental credit will ensure that 100,000 more renters will get money back on their taxes each year. Minnesota’s tax code is the most progressive and equitable in the country, thanks to our work.    

It’s hard not to resort to a list of accomplishments: from Drivers Licenses For All and harm reduction efforts that I authored, to historic investments in housing and homelessness, and cannabis legalization that have been the focus of my work in previous years. We also passed many amazing policies like Paid Family and Medical Leave, universal school meals, free college for low and middle income families, abortion rights, trans refuge, and much more.

I am so grateful to everyone who contacted my office, visited me, cheered on our work, or challenged us to dig deeper and do more. Even after such a momentous year, there are still real needs in our city—neighbors who are unhoused, families who can’t afford childcare, and working people struggling to afford their lives. Our work is not done.

Our city, and especially our beloved Southside, has been through heavy times in the past few years. Through it all, communities have come together to solve complex issues and take care of one another. Even in the darkest moments, I saw the love, support, and care that people in our communities have for each other. 

We believe in each other, and we know that we can do better. We believe in a world and systems that work for people. Like you, I am committed to our movements. And like you, I will continue to show up on picket lines and at encampment evictions and in every other fight that matters to you. I will continue to work to respond to your demands (like how we found $2 million of state money to support the East Phillips Urban Farm in the tax bill!).

I hope to earn your support to keep fighting by your side for the future our people deserve.
