Accomplishments
I know that our community is unified in our desire for a better world and I am proud to fight for it. Here are a few things I have been proud to work on as your state representative.
Fighting the Power
People over profit: Fought to protect Minneapolis residents from harmful pollution, holding state regulators and owners of the Smith Foundry accountable for emission violations.
Make corporations pay their fair share: Led the fight against corporate tax dodging by passing nation-leading legislation to tax corporate profits hidden in foreign tax havens.
Tax the rich: Raised taxes on the wealthiest Minnesotans making over $500,000 per year.
Protecting shared resources: Beat back billions of dollars in tax cuts for corporations and the rich.
Serving the People
Protecting the unhoused:
Established the first legislative committee on ending homelessness and secured millions of dollars in first-time funding.
Helped secure $300 million in additional state funding for homeless response.
Making housing affordable:
Fought for and won over $100 million in local housing assistance through the Homework Starts with Home Program.
Expanded the renter’s tax credit to ease housing burdens.
Supporting low-income families:
Created a nation-leading child tax credit providing families with up to $1,700 per child for eligible families.
Created a first-in-the-nation advanced child tax credit, allowing for monthly payments instead of annual lump sums.
Fighting for an inclusive Minnesota: Carried and passed legislation restoring driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.
